IMM Cologne, the world's leading furniture fair, got off to a
bright new start when it presented home furnishings and furniture trends in January of this year.
One of the bigger international trade shows, IMM Cologne saw 1,301 participating companies from 57 countries presenting
a spectrum of top-quality design furniture over seven days. 66 percent of the exhibitors are from global markets and a total of
115,000 visitors turned up to absorb the latest trends and new products in this sector.
IMM Cologne set new highlights for architecture, design and interior concepts with the first-time staging of its "Architecture Code Cologne" and renewed presentation of ideal houses cologne.
Sharing a booth with the Singapore Furniture Industry Council (SFIC), BuySingapore was at the furniture fair to collect trade leads for its e-trading portal. Located at the Asian pavilion of the large convention hall, the Singapore booth put up an elegant showcase of the local furniture scene.
Trade leads from European Union (EU) and Asian countries poured in from visitors to the fair, with 70% of the leads from EU countries.
Despite hurricane Kyrill which hit unexpectedly on Thursday, the show still managed to match the previous year's visitor figures. Around 40 percent of the trade visitors at imm cologne 2007 came from abroad.
According to a press release from the press centre, the conclusion after the fair is that furniture is back "in" again for the consumers. The growth motor in the sector is currently exports. Round, organic, soft forms are producing sofas and easy-chairs with a cuddle factor - lazing around is popular again.
There is also a departure from focusing entirely on low-price products towards the outer and inner values of a piece of furniture. Quality is right at the top of the list of priorities.
